Biography

Dr. Greg DeBourgh [day berg] is a doctorally-prepared registered nurse who has practiced in administrative, clinical, and academic roles for over 28 years. He is clinically prepared as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and experienced in patient care management of the adult critically ill client. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of San Francisco, he served in both clinical and administrative management positions, as well as in executive leadership roles.

Dr. DeBourgh earned his graduate degree in nursing science at the University of California, San Francisco and his EdD from the School of Education at the University of San Francisco, where he studied with experts in curriculum development, cognitive psychology, and learning and instruction. He conducts ongoing educational research to explore the development of advanced reasoning skills, the impact of technology and instructional design on student satisfaction in distance-delivered nursing curricula, and students’ experiences in technology-enriched classroom instruction.

He has presented his work at international educational and research conferences, and has published his recent scholarly work in peer-reviewed print and online journals, exploring the use of technology to design, deliver, and evaluate multi-mode instruction. Dr. DeBourgh also serves on the editorial board of directors for the American Association of Critical Care Nurses’ Clinical Issues Journal, and has received several prestigious awards honoring his teaching abilities, including:
  • The University of San Francisco Distinguished Teaching Award
  • The USF Center for Instructional Technology “Faculty Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Use of Technology in the Classroom and Online”
  • The University of San Francisco School of Nursing Teaching Effectiveness Award
  • Several Honors from The International Nursing Honor Society, Sigma Theta Tau, including the “Mentor Epitome Award”, “Advancement of the Profession” and “Outstanding Contributions to the Chapter Award”
Dr. DeBourgh currently instructs students in pathophysiology, complex care, and leadership and management behaviors. In addition to his faculty role, he serves as the Chairperson for the Adult Health Department in the School of Nursing, and provides consultative services within the Kaiser Permanente Health Care System in multiple roles, including professional development, performance improvement, and clinical and administrative supervision.
